This Is What a Documented Roof Looks Like
Real footage from our crews, not stock. The inspection that documents every layer for your claim, the tear-off down to the deck with new wood wherever it's needed, and the roof that goes back on built for the next storm.
- Storm damage hides at the edges. That's what gets missed.
- New decking whenever it's needed, never a layover.
- Local, licensed, and permanently here to honor the warranty.

Hail inspection and the insurance pathMontgomery: The Place and the Roofs
Montgomery is a village of 20,262 people (2020 census) about 45 miles southwest of Chicago, split between Kane and Kendall counties. It's bordered by Aurora to the north and east, Oswego to the south and Yorkville to the southwest, and the Fox River runs through it. Routes 30, 31 and 25 cross the village.
Montgomery began as a settlement called Graystown, named for Daniel S. Gray, and was incorporated in 1858. Most of that history is a mile or two from the newer subdivisions, but every roof in town faces the same northern Illinois weather.

Storm History for Montgomery: What the Public Records Say
We only cite storms that NWS Chicago or the Storm Prediction Center documented, and we say plainly when a write-up doesn't name Montgomery. A report in Kane County or in a nearby town is context, not proof that a roof here was hit.
On April 17, 2026, NOAA Storm Events listed 7 wind reports in Cook, DeKalb, Kane, McHenry and Will Counties, with a highest gust of 66 mph at Riley. Nearby Fox Valley communities named in the reports include Aurora, Batavia, Geneva and St. Charles. Montgomery isn't named. Source: SPC reports for April 17, 2026.
On August 11, 2026, NWS measured a 97 mph gust in Sugar Grove, about seven miles northwest of Montgomery on Route 30, and confirmed an EF-0 tornado in Oswego, just south of the village. Montgomery isn't named in the survey, so a wind report nearby doesn't tell you what your roof took. Source: NWS Chicago derecho summary.
On July 4, 2026, the Storm Prediction Center reports list wind in Cook, DeKalb, Kane, Kendall and Will Counties, with a highest gust of 68 mph at Shorewood in Will County. Aurora, North Aurora and Oswego are named. Source: SPC reports for July 4, 2026.

Storm Damage Roofing Services for Montgomery
Every Montgomery project starts with a Haag-certified inspector on the roof deck. They walk each slope, press-test for bruising and mat fractures, check flashings, pipe boots and vents, and photograph the damage. The inspection takes about 45 minutes and produces a report formatted for an insurance submission. The report is yours whether or not you hire us. Our post on what hail damage looks like explains what the inspector looks for.
For Montgomery homes with confirmed damage, C&N handles storm restoration from tear-off through final inspection: removing damaged shingles to the deck, replacing bad decking and underlayment, and installing GAF Timberline HDZ shingles with ice and water barrier at the eaves and valleys. Flashings, pipe boots and drip edge are replaced new. Siding, gutters and soffit are included when the claim covers them.
If water is coming in, don't wait for paperwork. Our emergency repair crews can tarp or seal a breach to keep the interior dry. For the steps on a claim, see how to file a roof insurance claim.
Insurance Claims in Montgomery
We're roofing contractors, not public adjusters. Your claim is between you and your carrier. What C&N does is document the damage, meet the adjuster on your roof and scope the work.
We recommend a Haag-certified inspection before you call your insurance company. A report with hit counts, measurements and slope-by-slope photos gives you facts before you talk to a carrier. When the adjuster comes, we're on the roof walking through the findings. If the adjuster's scope leaves out documented damage, we send supporting photos and a written scope for a supplement. Carriers handle supplements routinely.
If a claim is denied or underpaid, Illinois law gives you options: ask for a re-inspection, hire a licensed public adjuster, or invoke the appraisal clause in your policy. We can tell you which path fits your situation, but we can't promise how it will turn out.

Why Montgomery Homeowners Need a Local Contractor
After any big storm in Chicagoland, out-of-town crews show up and knock on doors. The problem isn't always the workmanship. It's what happens when you find a leak a year later, or when your insurer asks for documentation, and the company that signed your contract has no office to call.
Montgomery has its own rule on this. The village requires roofing solicitors to register in person, pass a background check and wear a yellow permit card, and it tells residents to call the police if a solicitor shows up without one. Ask any door-knocker to show it.
C&N Construction is headquartered in Hillside, IL and has been at the same address since 2015. Over 25,400 completed projects across Chicagoland, W-2 crews instead of subcontractors, GAF Master Elite with Golden Pledge warranty coverage, Haag-certified inspectors, a BBB A+ rating and a 4.6 Google review average.
Class 4 Shingles in Montgomery
When a roof is being replaced through an insurance claim, you can usually upgrade to the impact-rated option by paying the difference between the standard material and the Class 4 product. Timberline HDZ is our standard architectural shingle. The impact-rated option is GAF Timberline UHDZ with UltraMat, which GAF rates UL 2218 Class 4 when sold in the marked packages (GAF, checked October 2026). No shingle is hail-proof, and large stones will damage any roofing material.
Some insurers offer a premium discount for a UL 2218 Class 4 roof, and the amount varies by carrier and policy, so ask your agent before you choose.
We serve Montgomery and nearby towns including Aurora, Oswego, North Aurora, and Yorkville. Our in-house crews carry the same GAF warranty coverage on every project.
On an approved storm claim, your out-of-pocket cost in Montgomery for the covered work is your deductible. Your policy sets it: often a flat amount such as $1,000 to $2,500, and for wind and hail frequently a percentage of dwelling coverage (1% to 2%). Paying cash, most residential roof replacements land between $14,000 and $25,000 depending on the size of the home, with larger or complex roofs running higher and repairs starting around $400.
What moves the number
Roof size and pitch, tear-off layers, decking condition, and material tier. Every quote is itemized line by line, so you can see which one is moving yours.
What a normal job includes
Tear-off and disposal, underlayment and ice and water shield, flashing and drip edge, ridge venting, cleanup with magnetic sweeps, the permit, and warranty registration.
Full pricing detail: replacement costs, repair costs, and how we get paid when the inspection is free. Insurance figures assume a covered peril and approved claim; your policy controls. The only out-of-pocket surprises we allow are the ones we disclose first: rotted decking and upgrades you choose.
Illinois roofing license #104.017643. GAF Master Elite (top 2% of contractors nationwide), Haag Certified Inspectors, BBB A+, OSHA certified crews. Work carries a 2-year limited lifetime workmanship warranty plus manufacturer-backed GAF system warranty options. Crews dispatch from the Hillside headquarters and work Montgomery and its neighboring towns year round. See the work itself, our crews' own photos, on the recent work page.
On a recent insurance-funded roof, the carrier's first estimate missed 292 linear feet of gutter work. Our documented supplement recovered it: a $2,928 line added to the carrier's own estimate, with photos attached. And when we didn't complete a $13.81 downspout item on another project, the final invoice showed a $13.81 credit. Itemized in both directions, every time. The actual documents are on our billing transparency page.

A handyman is fine when
One slipped shingle on a young roof, a gutter re-hang, or a small cash fix under a few hundred dollars. No claim involved, no documentation needed. We'd rather tell you that than sell you a truck roll.
Call us when
Storm damage, anything slope-wide, a replacement, or any job where insurance is paying, because that's a documentation job as much as a roofing job. Weighing whether to file at all? The break-even math is here.
It's urgent when
Water is inside, decking is exposed, or a tree is on the roof. Emergency tarping runs 24/7, and the tarp decision is separate from choosing your replacement contractor, so don't let anyone bundle the two at your door.
How It Works When You Say Yes
No-risk contract. You sign a contingency agreement. Work starts after insurance approves the claim. If it doesn't go through, you owe nothing.
Your budget, your call. You can spec down the project to match your insurance payout exactly. You won't pay for unapproved work unless you tell us to order it before the approval.
We call you first. If there's a gap between our recommendation and insurance, we call you. The only reasons you'd pay extra are damaged lumber or a luxury shingle upgrade.
Roofing Permits in Montgomery
What the Village of Montgomery Building Department publishes about a reroof, checked October 22, 2026:
- Permit for a reroof: Required. The village lists Roofing among the projects that need a permit before work starts. Applications go to permits@montgomeryil.org, or can be filed through the village's BS&A online portal, which accepts roof permits and charges a $3 service fee. Source
- Ice barrier and drip edge: The village's roofing requirements sheet says ice and water shield and drip edge are required, with a final inspection. It also says the permit application needs the signed contract (or the adjuster estimate if the contract has no total) and allows a maximum of two layers. Source
- Fee: Not published on the pages we checked.
- Door-to-door roofers: Montgomery requires roofing solicitors to register in person, pass a background check and display a yellow village permit card. The village's notice says any roofing work also requires a permit before it begins. Source
Everything above comes from the sources linked. Call the building department to confirm before work starts. See the suburb roofing permit table for other towns.
