This Is What a Documented Roof Looks Like
Real footage from our crews, not stock. The inspection that documents every layer for your claim, the tear-off down to the deck with new wood wherever it's needed, and the roof that goes back on built for the next storm.
- Storm damage hides at the edges. That's what gets missed.
- New decking whenever it's needed, never a layover.
- Local, licensed, and permanently here to honor the warranty.

Hail inspection and the insurance pathStorms Close to Hanover Park
Hanover Park straddles Cook and DuPage Counties and covers 6.53 square miles (Wikipedia). Storms don't respect that line, and neither does a claim: your policy, not the county, sets the terms.
On June 11, 2026, NWS Chicago confirmed an EF-1 tornado in neighboring Bartlett with peak winds near 100 mph. It started in Pratt's Wayne Woods, tracked east-northeast for about 3 miles, and ended east of Bartlett Road. Using the NWS end point and the village's published coordinates, that is roughly 2 miles west of Hanover Park's center (NWS Chicago, June 11, 2026). The NWS did not list a tornado in Hanover Park itself.
In the June 13, 2022 supercell, the NWS survey team found its most concentrated damage in Streamwood, Schaumburg and Roselle, which are close to Hanover Park (Village Free Press, citing NWS). The storm events above add this year's Cook County reports.
What Hanover Park's Housing Means for Your Roof
Hanover Park had 451 residents in 1960, 11,735 in 1970 and 28,719 in 1980, so most of the housing went up in the 1960s and 1970s. The 2020 census counted 11,732 housing units (Wikipedia, from Census data). The Ontarioville neighborhood, south of Lake Street near County Farm and Ontarioville Roads, is the older part of the village.
Roofs on 1960s and 1970s houses are usually on their second or third covering. The village limits shingle roofs to two layers, so a roof that already has two must be torn off to the deck before it is replaced.
Storm Damage Roofing Services for Hanover Park
Every Hanover Park project starts with a Haag-certified inspector on the roof. They walk each slope, press-test for bruising and mat fractures, check every flashing, pipe boot and vent, and photograph the damage up close. The inspection produces a report formatted for insurance submission. The report is yours whether or not you hire us. Our post on identifying hail damage explains what they look for.
For Hanover Park homes with confirmed damage, we do complete storm restoration from tear-off through final inspection: removing damaged shingles to the deck, replacing bad decking and underlayment, and installing GAF Timberline HDZ architectural shingles with ice and water barrier at the eaves and in valleys. Flashings, pipe boots, drip edge and ridge ventilation are replaced new. Siding, gutters and soffit are included when the claim covers them.
With an active leak, paperwork doesn't have to come first. Our emergency repair team can tarp or seal the damage to limit interior water damage, and your policy sets its own terms for tarping; check your declarations page. For the filing steps, see how to file a roof insurance claim.
Insurance Claims in Hanover Park
Get a Haag-certified roof inspection before you call your carrier. The report, with hit counts, measurements and section-by-section photos, turns a general damage complaint into a documented one.
When your insurer sends an adjuster, C&N meets them on the roof and walks through each finding. We're roofing contractors, not public adjusters. We document the damage, meet the adjuster and scope the work. If the adjuster's scope leaves out damage we documented, we give you the photos and measurements to send back.
If a claim is denied or underpaid, your options may include a re-inspection request, a licensed public adjuster, or your policy's appraisal clause. Results depend on your policy and your facts, and we don't promise any outcome.

Why Hanover Park Homeowners Need a Local Contractor
After a storm, out-of-town crews knock on doors, push for signed contracts, and are gone by the time a leak shows up. Their warranty is only as good as the company that stands behind it.
C&N Construction is headquartered in Hillside, IL, and has been at the same address since 2015. We run W-2 crews, hold the GAF Master Elite designation, and employ Haag-certified inspectors. C&N has completed work in Hanover Park and in the towns around it. Before you sign with anyone, ask to see their State roofing license and their village registration.
Class 4 Shingles in Hanover Park
When your roof is replaced through an insurance claim, you can upgrade to the impact-rated option by paying the difference between the standard material and the upgrade. Timberline HDZ is our standard architectural shingle. The impact-rated option is GAF Timberline UHDZ with UltraMat, which GAF rates UL 2218 Class 4 when sold in the marked packages (GAF, checked October 2026).
No shingle is hailproof. Class 4 is a lab test, a proxy for the common 1-inch to 2-inch hail that crosses Chicagoland most years, not a promise about any one storm. Some carriers discount premiums for Class 4 roofs, so ask yours what it offers and get the answer in writing before you decide.
We also serve Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Carol Stream, and Bartlett. Every project carries the same GAF warranty coverage from in-house crews.
Roofing Permits in Hanover Park
What Hanover Park Inspectional Services Division and the village publish about roofing, checked October 22, 2026:
- Permit: A building permit is required for roofing, applied for online or in person. The application needs a signed contract or estimate detailing the scope and the materials, plus a roof ventilation calculation. Source
- Ice barrier: The village's Roofs handout (January 2023) requires ice and water shield on all eaves and valleys, extending from the lowest edge to at least 24 inches inside the warm face of the exterior wall line. Source
- Layers and fasteners: No more than two layers of shingles and one layer of decking. Shingles must be nailed, not stapled. Drip edge is required at eaves and rakes. Source
- Inspections: 24 hours' notice. A rough inspection is required if any framing is repaired or replaced, and a final inspection verifies the roof is installed, vented and flashed. Source
- Contractor registration: Roofing contractors must register with the village and provide a current State of Illinois roofer license. All contractors must be registered and bonded before a permit issues. Source
- Fee: Not published on the pages we checked. Page checked
Illinois law also says a municipality that requires a building permit may not issue it to a roofing contractor without proof of current State licensure (225 ILCS 335/5(a-3), checked October 22, 2026).
Call the building department at (630) 823-5860 to confirm before work starts. Our suburb roofing permit table covers other towns.
On an approved storm claim, your out-of-pocket cost in Hanover Park for the covered work is your deductible. Your policy sets it: often a flat amount such as $1,000 to $2,500, and for wind and hail frequently a percentage of dwelling coverage (1% to 2%). Paying cash, most residential roof replacements land between $14,000 and $25,000 depending on the size of the home, with larger or complex roofs running higher and repairs starting around $400.
What moves the number
Roof size and pitch, tear-off layers, decking condition, and material tier. Every quote is itemized line by line, so you can see which one is moving yours.
What a normal job includes
Tear-off and disposal, underlayment and ice and water shield, flashing and drip edge, ridge venting, cleanup with magnetic sweeps, the permit, and warranty registration.
Full pricing detail: replacement costs, repair costs, and how we get paid when the inspection is free. Insurance figures assume a covered peril and approved claim; your policy controls. The only out-of-pocket surprises we allow are the ones we disclose first: rotted decking and upgrades you choose.

On a recent insurance-funded roof, the carrier's first estimate missed 292 linear feet of gutter work. Our documented supplement recovered it: a $2,928 line added to the carrier's own estimate, with photos attached. And when we didn't complete a $13.81 downspout item on another project, the final invoice showed a $13.81 credit. Itemized in both directions, every time. The actual documents are on our billing transparency page.

A handyman is fine when
One slipped shingle on a young roof, a gutter re-hang, or a small cash fix under a few hundred dollars. No claim involved, no documentation needed. We'd rather tell you that than sell you a truck roll.
Call us when
Storm damage, anything slope-wide, a replacement, or any job where insurance is paying, because that's a documentation job as much as a roofing job. Weighing whether to file at all? The break-even math is here.
It's urgent when
Water is inside, decking is exposed, or a tree is on the roof. Emergency tarping runs 24/7, and the tarp decision is separate from choosing your replacement contractor, so don't let anyone bundle the two at your door.
How It Works When You Say Yes
No-risk contract. You sign a contingency agreement. Work starts after insurance approves the claim. If it doesn't go through, you owe nothing.
Your budget, your call. You can spec down the project to match your insurance payout exactly. You won't pay for unapproved work unless you tell us to order it before the approval.
We call you first. If there's a gap between our recommendation and insurance, we call you. The only reasons you'd pay extra are damaged lumber or a luxury shingle upgrade.
