The June 11, 2026 Bartlett Tornado

NWS Chicago rated the Bartlett tornado of June 11, 2026 an EF-1 with peak winds near 100 mph. It touched down at 7:52 p.m. in Pratt's Wayne Woods, tracked about 3 miles east-northeast into Bartlett, and was up to 400 yards wide. The survey found "roofing material was peeled off of buildings" at the shopping center at Sutton and Stearns Roads, and extensive tree damage in the subdivisions east of it (NWS Chicago survey).

The Daily Herald reported that several Bartlett homes sustained significant damage, and the fire district chief confirmed structural collapses with no injuries (Daily Herald, June 12, 2026).

Bartlett spreads across DuPage, Cook and a small part of Kane County. Whichever county your address is in, check your policy for its deadline to report a loss, which can run from the storm date. For this event that date was June 11, 2026. The other 2026 storms listed above are county-level NWS write-ups.

What Bartlett's Housing Means for Your Roof

Bartlett had 1,540 residents in 1960 and 13,254 in 1980, then 36,706 in 2000, so most of it was built in the 1980s and 1990s. Regional Housing Solutions places 80% of Bartlett in a submarket of suburban 1980 to 1999 housing stock (source). The village covers about 16 square miles.

Roofs from that era are now 25 to 40 years old. Many are on their first or second replacement, and the original three-tab and early architectural shingles have the least hail resistance. A storm like June 11 finds the weak ones.

Storm Damage Roofing Services for Bartlett

Every Bartlett project starts with a Haag-certified inspector on the roof. They walk each slope, press-test for bruising and mat fractures, check every flashing, pipe boot and vent, and photograph the damage up close. The inspection produces a report formatted for insurance submission. The report is yours whether or not you hire us. Our post on identifying hail damage explains what they look for.

For Bartlett homes with confirmed damage, we do complete storm restoration from tear-off through final inspection: removing damaged shingles to the deck, replacing bad decking and underlayment, and installing GAF Timberline HDZ architectural shingles with ice and water barrier at the eaves and in valleys. Flashings, pipe boots, drip edge and ridge ventilation are replaced new. Siding, gutters and soffit are included when the claim covers them.

With an active leak, don't wait for paperwork. Our emergency repair team can tarp or seal the damage to limit interior water damage, and your policy sets its own terms for tarping; check your declarations page. For the filing steps, see how to file a roof insurance claim.

Insurance Claims in Bartlett

Get a Haag-certified roof inspection before you call your carrier. The report, with hit counts, measurements and section-by-section photos, turns a general damage complaint into a documented one.

When your insurer sends an adjuster, C&N meets them on the roof and walks through each finding. We're roofing contractors, not public adjusters. We document the damage, meet the adjuster and scope the work. If the adjuster's scope leaves out damage we documented, we give you the photos and measurements to send back.

If a claim is denied or underpaid, your options may include a re-inspection request, a licensed public adjuster, or your policy's appraisal clause. Results depend on your policy and your facts, and we don't promise any outcome.

Why Bartlett Homeowners Need a Local Contractor

After a storm, out-of-town crews knock on doors, push for signed contracts, and are gone by the time a leak shows up. Their warranty is only as good as the company that stands behind it.

C&N Construction is headquartered in Hillside, IL, and has been at the same address since 2015. We run W-2 crews, hold the GAF Master Elite designation, and employ Haag-certified inspectors. C&N has completed work in Bartlett and in the towns around it. Before you sign with anyone, ask to see their State roofing license and their village registration.

Class 4 Shingles in Bartlett

When your roof is replaced through an insurance claim, you can upgrade to the impact-rated option by paying the difference between the standard material and the upgrade. Timberline HDZ is our standard architectural shingle. The impact-rated option is GAF Timberline UHDZ with UltraMat, which GAF rates UL 2218 Class 4 when sold in the marked packages (GAF, checked October 2026).

No shingle is hailproof. Class 4 is a lab test, a proxy for the common 1-inch to 2-inch hail that crosses Chicagoland most years, not a promise about any one storm. Some carriers discount premiums for Class 4 roofs, so ask yours what it offers and get the answer in writing before you decide.

We also serve South Elgin, Elgin, Carol Stream, Hoffman Estates, and Hanover Park. Every project carries the same GAF warranty coverage from in-house crews.

Roofing Permits in Bartlett

What Village of Bartlett Building Division and the village publish about roofing, checked October 22, 2026:

  • Permit: A building permit is required for repairing, altering or replacing a structure. The Building Division lists a "Roof" permit, applied for through the village's online portal, and a village news item from 2021 describes roofs as an "express permit." All contractors must be licensed by the Village of Bartlett. Source
  • Replacement rule: Municipal Code § 9-8-18(G): when a roof replacement or repair covers 9 square feet or more, "this would require the entire side of the roof to be replaced." Amended by Ordinance 2026-62 on June 16, 2026. Source
  • Shingle and underlayment: Shingles must carry a minimum 25-year warranty and be laid over at least 15 lb felt (code § 9-8-18(E)). Drip edge protects exposed sheathing edges at eaves and rakes. Source
  • Roof Guide: The village publishes a Roof Guide (August 2022) among its residential building documents. We could not read it, so we don't state its ice barrier or inspection terms. Source
  • Fee: Not published on the pages we checked. Page checked

Illinois law also says a municipality that requires a building permit may not issue it to a roofing contractor without proof of current State licensure (225 ILCS 335/5(a-3), checked October 22, 2026).

Call the building department at (630) 540-5920 to confirm before work starts. Our suburb roofing permit table covers other towns.

What the Money Looks Like

On an approved storm claim, your out-of-pocket cost in Bartlett for the covered work is your deductible. Your policy sets it: often a flat amount such as $1,000 to $2,500, and for wind and hail frequently a percentage of dwelling coverage (1% to 2%). Paying cash, most residential roof replacements land between $14,000 and $25,000 depending on the size of the home, with larger or complex roofs running higher and repairs starting around $400.

What moves the number

Roof size and pitch, tear-off layers, decking condition, and material tier. Every quote is itemized line by line, so you can see which one is moving yours.

What a normal job includes

Tear-off and disposal, underlayment and ice and water shield, flashing and drip edge, ridge venting, cleanup with magnetic sweeps, the permit, and warranty registration.

Full pricing detail: replacement costs, repair costs, and how we get paid when the inspection is free. Insurance figures assume a covered peril and approved claim; your policy controls. The only out-of-pocket surprises we allow are the ones we disclose first: rotted decking and upgrades you choose.

On a recent insurance-funded roof, the carrier's first estimate missed 292 linear feet of gutter work. Our documented supplement recovered it: a $2,928 line added to the carrier's own estimate, with photos attached. And when we didn't complete a $13.81 downspout item on another project, the final invoice showed a $13.81 credit. Itemized in both directions, every time. Who Should You Actually Call?

A handyman is fine when

One slipped shingle on a young roof, a gutter re-hang, or a small cash fix under a few hundred dollars. No claim involved, no documentation needed. We'd rather tell you that than sell you a truck roll.

Call us when

Storm damage, anything slope-wide, a replacement, or any job where insurance is paying, because that's a documentation job as much as a roofing job. Weighing whether to file at all? The break-even math is here.

It's urgent when

Water is inside, decking is exposed, or a tree is on the roof. Emergency tarping runs 24/7, and the tarp decision is separate from choosing your replacement contractor, so don't let anyone bundle the two at your door.

How It Works When You Say Yes

No-risk contract. You sign a contingency agreement. Work starts after insurance approves the claim. If it doesn't go through, you owe nothing.

Your budget, your call. You can spec down the project to match your insurance payout exactly. You won't pay for unapproved work unless you tell us to order it before the approval.

We call you first. If there's a gap between our recommendation and insurance, we call you. The only reasons you'd pay extra are damaged lumber or a luxury shingle upgrade.

Common Questions

Bartlett Storm Damage FAQs

What happened in Bartlett on June 11, 2026?
NWS Chicago rated it an EF-1 tornado with peak winds near 100 mph and a 400-yard maximum width. It peeled roofing material off buildings at a shopping center at Sutton and Stearns Roads and caused extensive tree damage in subdivisions to the east. There were no injuries.
If a few shingles blew off, can I patch just those?
Bartlett's municipal code (§ 9-8-18(G)) says that when 9 square feet or more of roof is replaced, the entire side of the roof must be replaced. That rule can push a small repair into a full roof side, so get the scope documented before you decide.
Which county is my Bartlett house in?
Bartlett spans DuPage, Cook and a small part of Kane County. Check your tax bill. The county affects your assessor and township, but your homeowner policy's terms and dates decide your claim.
How do I get a Bartlett roof permit?
The Building Division lists a Roof permit applied for through the village's online portal, and all contractors must be licensed by the village. The reroof fee is not published on the pages we checked on October 22, 2026. Call (630) 540-5920.
Should I call my insurance company or a roofer first?
Inspect first, file second. A Haag-certified inspection gives you photos, hit counts and measurements before you talk to your carrier, so you know the scope and whether the damage clears your deductible. We're roofing contractors, not public adjusters. We document the roof, meet your adjuster at the property, and scope the work.
How much does a roof replacement cost in Bartlett?
Costs vary with roof size, pitch, material, layers to tear off and the number of penetrations. We give a written estimate before work begins, and it matches the documentation submitted to your insurer. The range on this page is where most residential replacements land, and your written estimate sets the actual number for your roof.
How do I avoid storm chasers after a storm?
Look up the company's permanent office address, confirm their Illinois roofing license, check their registration with your village, and read real Google reviews. Anyone who offers to waive or absorb your deductible is asking you to take part in insurance fraud, which Illinois law prohibits.
Do I have to pay anything before insurance approves?
No. You sign an agreement, and work doesn't start until your insurer has decided the claim. Your deductible and any upgrades you choose are your responsibility under your policy. Read the agreement before you sign and ask us anything in it.
